At Audibel Hearing of Westmont and La Grange, we’re committed to making sure your hearing aids fit your unique and exact hearing needs. A real ear measurement (REM) service is one way we do that.

What are Real Ear Measurements?

No two ear canals are alike, which is why fitting and programming hearing aids properly is part art and part science. We use real ear measurements to scientifically verify that your hearing aids are programmed to your precise needs, and are delivering the level of amplification needed at each frequency to achieve the best hearing possible.

How do Real Ear Measurements Work?

After initial programming, we will place a thin probe microphone inside your ear canal. We then play sounds from the REM system speaker nearby. The microphone measures the sounds on a graph, objectively verifying what is being received at your ear drum.

With the probe microphone still in, we will then insert your hearing aids, play the same sounds again, and measure one more time. We then adjust programming to ensure that your hearing aids are amplifying appropriately for your unique hearing loss and ear anatomy.

  • Ensure a comfortable listening experience.
  • Improve sound quality and speech understanding.
  • Deliver a more tailored and satisfying hearing solution.
